Stephen & Carol Huber: 17th - 19th Century Needlework

Rhode Island sampler Budlong family - from Huber

Sarah Ann or Lydia Whitman Budlong
Family Register Sampler
Rhode Island after 1838

The Budlong family register information is contained within elaborately stitched arched columns wrapped with garlands of floral vines. Extensive research indicates that the family represented on this sampler lived in Warwick, RI.

Benjamin Budlong (1759-1824) was the father of Samuel Budlong (1786-1864) who's family is the subject of this family record. Samuel was married first to Lydia Atwood who died at age 20 a week after having a son who died at age 8. Samuel married second to Sarah Ann Whitman, and they had nine more children.

The sampler is in excellent condition, without any thread loss and one tiny hole to the ground. There's an overall darkening to the linen ground consistent with age. It is conservation mounted in an antique style frame.

Provenance: Dan and Marty Campanelli. Extensive research accompanies this sampler.

Silk on linen; 16 ½" x 16 ½" sight.
