Newbury, Massachusetts 1788

Mary Alexander Born September 29th 1777 Aged 11 yr. Mary worked this large and beautiful Newbury, MA sampler in the year 1788. It has all the classic characteristics of Newbury samplers including the double three sided border, and a bottom scene depicting animals, birds, trees, and vase of flowers grounded on grass covered hills.
Mary was the daughter of William Alexander of Londonderry, NH , he was a housewright and wheelmaker , and Eunice Plumer of Newbury, MA. They married in 1771 and settled in Newbury.
Silk on linen; 21 1/8 x 17 ¾ inches sight.
