Sarah Ruth Bradley Baltimore, Maryland Dated 1832 This stunning sampler is inscribed: Sarah Ruth Bradley/ Workd this Sampler in/ the 12 Year of her age/Baltimore May the/23d in the Year of/ our Lord 1832. In the top rectangular cartouche she stitched the verse "And as a blessing on my Birth/ May Wisdoms Ways Be Given/ That I may Live the Life on Earth/ That Fits me best for Heaven". The central basket of flowers is flanked by two brightly colored birds and framed with a three sided flowering vine border. At the bottom are mirror motifs of a butterfly, owls, doves, bas-kets, dogs, and people on a colorful solidly worked background. Silk on linen; 18 7/8" x 17 7/8" framed.
