MARY ANN COPPEN Probably Ontario, Canada1826 Inscribed: Mary Ann Coppen/ finished this work/ in the 13 year of/ her age 1826. This beautifully executed and graphic needlework sampler incorporates a central basket of fruit surrounded with flowering vines, birds, butterflies, and a four sided border. The verse is from a book written for children in 1823 by Joseph Cottle and later incorporated into a hymn. The sampler was discovered in Ontario, Canada and genealogical research indicates there is a concentration of
the Coppen family name in and around Ontario.
