RUTH TILDEN DAMAN
Scituate, MA 1807
Ruth wrought this highly graphic needlework sampler featuring a large center-hall house with fenced yard, flanked
by monuments and flowering bushes. Along with various alphabets and charming verse, she stitched the vowels including
a W.
Ruth (1795-1855) was the daughter of Calvin Daman (1760-1801) and Mercy Eells (c.1758-1822). She married Harris
Damon in 1819 in Scituate and they had eight children.
Her sister stitched an almost identical sampler and colored her house yellow.
Silk on linen; 19 3/8 x 16 inches sight.
