ESSEX
Ruth's sampler is one of only three known from the Parker school that actually names Miss Parker as the school
mistress. Her cousin, Elizabeth Ayer, in 1801, worked one of the other two samplers which is almost identical.
Both girls were cousins of the famous poet John Greenleaf Whittier who also lived in Haverhill, MA.
