Ruth Emerson Antique Nedlework Sampler Miss Parker's school Haverhill, Essex County, MA dated 1802 Inscribed: RUTH EMMERSON BORN JANUARY 2 1790/ wrought this in Miss PARKER's School 1802/ HAVERHILL COUNTY ESSEX Ruth's sampler is one of only three known from the Parker school that actually names Miss Parker as the school mistress. Her cousin, Elizabeth Ayer, in 1801, worked one of the other two samplers which is almost identical. Both girls were cousins of the famous poet John Greenleaf Whittier who also lived in Haverhill, MA.
