Antique needlework sampler
MARY E. FAIRBANKS
Massachusetts c.1800
Mary worked this extremely ambitious sampler at aged 12 while attending school in Massachusetts around the turn
of the 18th to 19th century. Although she never finished it, she was on the way to making a stunning and important
American sampler. The design, color choices, and completely filled in background would have been phenomenal had
she been able to complete it.
