GOULDING FAMILY RECORD SAMPLER Elizabeth Goulding Worchester, MA 1820 Family record samplers are aesthetically pleasing windows into the past. In this example the central portion is worked on very fine gauze framed with a graphic flowered border on three sides and homestead and town scene flanking a monument at the bottom. Elizabeth was 22 years old in 1820 when she worked this sampler. She included a memorial to her brother William but not Franklin, maybe because the second Franklin was still alive. Elizabeth died just 2 years after completing her family record, leaving behind something for future generations. Silk on linen; 19 ½ x 18 ¼ inches.
