Ann Channing Huntington
Antique Needlework Sampler
Norwich, CT dated 1787
Ann was only 7 years old when she stitched this magnificent sampler with a solidly worked background. Her 9
year old sister Elizabeth Moore Huntington in the same year stitched an almost identical sampler finishing it 5
days after Ann completed this one. Ann's 11 year old cousin, Ruth Huntington, was also in the class and worked
a similar sampler the same year.
Ann and Elizabeth were daughters of Brigadier General Jedediah Huntington of Revolutionary fame and his wife Ann
(Moore) Huntington. The other siblings were Faith Trumble, Harriet Smith, Daniel, and half sibling, Jabez
Ann at age 18, married Peter Richards and they had nine children with successful careers. In their later years
Ann and her husband lived with different children throughout New England but mainly in Groton with their oldest
child.
She died at age 76 and is buried in New London.
