Mary Graves Kimball worked this beautiful sampler while attending Elizabeth Plummer's School in Haverhill, Essex County, MA. Mary included her name, age, date, town and school. The initials M. S. at the bottom of the monument are probably associated with her maternal grandparents. The sampler is inscribed: MARY G. KIMBALL wrought this in E. PLUMMERS School in the/ 11th year of her age HAVERHILL 1808.

Mary (b.1797) was the daughter of Solomon Kimball and Polly Shepard and married Janes W. Ayer in 1826.
