Stephen & Carol Huber: 17th - 19th Century Needlework

Family Register sampler wrought by Loisa Newhall from Lynn, Massachusetts c.1817.

This is a very highly developed family register sampler with an overall needlework panel at the bottom featuring a central house, monument, animals, town scene on the river, a ship, trees, etc. The family information, verse, and tent stitched panel are all surrounded with a beautifully stitched flowering vine border and a vine cartouche in which Loisa stitched her name. Interestingly she spelled her name with a "z" in the register and used "s" in the cartouche at the bottom.

Silk on linen; 19 3/4" x 17" sight size.

Price $39,000
