Amanda worked this interesting sampler at age eleven. She included some alphabets, numbers and a poignant verse. At the bottom is a scene depicting a large two story "hotel" with a cupola and four chimneys, a trellis walkway to an out building, and a lady carrying a basket of flowers in a fenced garden.

It is inscribed: Townshend Aug. 5 1825 and Amanda M. Rand. Aged eleven years. Wrought under the instruction of Miss Hannah Parker.

Amanda Mildred Rand was born Feb. 28, 1814 in Windham County, VT to Richard and Relief (Sawyer) Rand. She was the oldest of eight children.
