Abigail wrought this pleasing sampler at aged 11 while attending school in Middletown, CT. She was born in Feb. 1789, two months before her parents Samuel Starr and Harah Barnes Apr. 1789 marriage. She was the oldest of 2 children.

She married Nathaniel Peck and had ten children. Her brother’s children sued her contesting her inheritance because of her illegitimacy.

The verse on her sampler reads “ Let virtue be your constant guide and learning be your greatest pride”.

Silk on linen: 13 ¼” x 10” sight.
