New England c.1800
This beautifully wrought sampler was apparently not quite finished when Abagail died on September 1, 1802. Her
seven year old brother died the next day. Someone stitched a memorial verse at the bottom in memory of Abigail
and her brother. Even with her early demise she left something delightful for our eyes.
Abigail surrounded this very ambitious sampler with an unusual solidly stitched flowering border with a black background.
Silk on linen; 30 ¼" x 20" framed.
