Polly Elliot Needlework Sampler Norwich, CT dated 1795 Mary (Polly) Elliot (1775/6 - 1859) worked this sampler while attending boarding school in Norwich, CT. Her family lived in Killingworth (now Clinton), CT. The solidly stitched black background is characteristic of other Norwich samplers. The graphic effect of this rare sampler is dynamic. She was the daughter of George Elliot and Hannah Ely and married Othniel W. Williams who graduated from Yale in 1810, and they had five children.
