Mary at age 12, worked this Family Record sampler which included her English father, his first wife who was
a widow, their two children (which included the sampler maker), and his second wife and their children. Mary stitched
a floral garland at the top of her sampler and a townscape (which may be Middletown, CT) at the bottom.

The family had a strong connection to Dalton, Massachusetts and the surrounding Berkshire area, as both of James
Hart's wives were from that area and some of the children were born there. Both of Mary's parents are buried in
Middletown, Connecticut.
