German - Adam & Eve Needlework Sample Dated 1799 This extraordinary unframed German sampler stands out from most, both in scale and its profuse number of classic design motifs. The dominate Adam & Eve motif is surrounded with symbolic ecclesiastical motifs, crowns, and domestic motifs such as a chest on stand, chairs, a lady spinning with a drop spindle, dogs, birds, flowers, ships, monkey, stag, etc. Inscribed within a cartouche held by two winged angles are the initials IDR and IRSP and the date 1799. The bottom is stitched with several alphabets, set of numerals, and intricate pattern motifs.
