Needlework Sampler
Bradford, New Hampshire c.1826
Maria Cressy was born November 30, 1817, in Bradford, NH, and wrought this sampler at aged 9 while attending
as yet an unidentified school.
An accompanying hand written note mentions she danced with President Franklin D, Pierce at a ball given in his
honor. Pierce was a native of NH and president of the US from 1853 to 1857.
Records indicate she died in Michigan on 6 Aug 1881.
Silk on linen; 20 ½ x 17 inches sight.
