The Music Teacher
Silk embroidery
American c, 1820

This intriguing silk embroidery depict a formally dressed man seated at a table writing a letter as an elegantly dressed young lady is standing and reciting from a musical score opened on the table. At their feet is a lavishly designed carpet. Behind the man is a red, gold fringed, drape and behind the young lady is a view across open lawn to a body of water with a windmill on the far shore. The embroidery is in a period gold frame with early reverse painted glass with black oval and gold leaf.

Silk and watercolor on silk; 28 ½" x 23 ½" framed.
